StyleADVISOR: Formatting Chart Layers

Mar 15, 2016 Jeremy Poulin

This blog post will discuss formatting the different chart layers used to build Zephyr StyleADVISOR charts.  Each chart in Zephyr StyleADVISOR is made up of several layers.  Each layer of a chart can be customized with a different color, border or image.  Below we will go over how to customize the background color of a chart layer and make note of the other available options.

In the image below we identify the five main chart layers.  Each is represented by a different color defined below.

  • Title (light green)
  • Sub-Title (pink)
  • Graph (light purple)
  • XY Plot (light blue)
  • Plot Area (gray)
  • Legend (light yellow)

When customizing the background color of a chart layer, the formatting window can be accessed one of two ways, via the double click or the right-click.  We will discuss making a background change to the title layer using both click options.  When using either the double click or the right-click the first step is making sure that your gallery is closed and Enable chart editing is turned on.  You can check this by clicking on the Edit menu and making sure the hammer and screwdriver icon  appears to be pressed down.

After turning on chart editing, the next step if using the right-click is to right-click anywhere on the chart.  On the right click menu, go to Chart and then Title on the sub-menu.  This will open the Chart Title formatting window.  In this window select the Backdrop tab.  On this tab you have the ability to customize the border, background color or add an image.

To customize the background color, select the Type dropdown menu.  On this menu select the Solid option, which will change the entire background color of the title chart layer.  After selecting solid, the color you would like the background to be can now be selected.  This is done by selecting the Color-dropdown-menu.  Here you can choose from one of the pre-defined colors or hit the Other… button to specify a RGB or a Hue, Sat and Lum.

Selecting a color:

Once a color has been selected, hit the OK button to exit the formatting window.  At this point, the title layer of your graph should have your selected background color.  If using the double click instead of the right-click all the steps are the same.  The only difference is you would double click on top of the chart layer, rather than right-clicking anywhere off the chart itself.  From this point you could continue modifying the remaining chart layers.  If you need assistance with anything discussed throughout this post, feel free to reach out to our support team either by e-mail at clientservices@informais.com or by phone at (800) 789-5323.
