Using Annotation Tools in StyleADVISOR

Feb 19, 2016 Jeremy Poulin

A common question among Zephyr StyleADVISOR users is, “How can I display the ending dollar value for my manager on the Growth of $100 chart?”  We will go over adding the final cumulative dollar value to your graph using the annotation tools menu.   Annotation tools allow you to add shapes, text boxes, lines, arrows and images onto a Zephyr StyleADVISOR graph or table.

The first step is making sure that your gallery is closed and Enable chart editing is turned on.  You can check this by clicking on the Edit menu and making sure the hammer and screwdriver icon  appears to be pressed down.

We are now ready to insert our annotation onto the Growth of $100 chart.  This is done by right-clicking on the graph and going to the Annotation Tools option on the menu, select text box.

After selecting the text box, your mouse cursor will turn into what looks like a “T”.  With the cursor like this, click and drag on the screen where you would like to place the text box.   Once you release the left mouse button, the text box will be inserted and the Annotation Element window will appear.

In this Annotation Element window click on the Text tab.  On this tab you will be able to insert the dollar value you would like to display.  On this same tab you can also adjust the font and alignment of the text in the text box.

After you have entered the dollar value, adjusted your font, and selected the appropriate alignment of the text on the Text tab then click on the Style tab.  On this tab you can select the Mode dropdown menu under the Line section to remove the outer boarder surrounding the text box.  This will make the dollar value appear to float on the chart rather than enclosed in a text box.

Now click OK to close the Annotation Element window.  Your dollar value will appear on the chart inside the text box, surrounded by eight black boxes which define the border of the text box.  You can hover over the black boxes to adjust the height or width of the text box.  With your mouse cursor you can also hover over top of the dollar value itself and click and drag to move the text box into a better location relative to the line you are labeling on the chart.  Once the text box is positioned correctly, you can click anywhere on the screen to make the black boxes go away.  The cumulative dollar value has been added to your graph.

I encourage you to continue looking at the annotation tools menu on the right-click to see if there are any other annotations that would make labeling your report even clearer.  For example, inserting a line or an arrow to point directly at the area being labeled on the graph.  I hope this blog has taught you how to do something new inside of your Zephyr StyleADVISOR that you didn’t know before.  If you need any assistance with anything discussed in this blog, feel free to reach out to our support team either by e-mail at clientservices@informais.com or by phone at (800) 789-5323.
